چکیده
Members of the maf gene family encode basic/leucine zipper transcription factors and play important roles during cell differentiation and organogenesis in vertebrate development. In this study, we show that the maf family is evolutionarily conserved and that the Drosophila maf (Dmaf) gene is expressed in somatic gonadal cells. During embryonic development, Dmaf mRNA is detected in somatic gonadal precursor cells emerging from dorsolateral mesoderm. Relatively weak expression is also observed in subset of neuronal cells in the central nervous system. In adult flies, Dmaf is expressed in somatic gonadal cells surrounding developing oocytes and spermatocytes. These results suggest a specific function for Dmaf in gonadal development, including migration and differentiation of primordial germ cells.

I-51: The Role of the Transcription FactorGCNF in Germ Cell Differentiation and Reproductionin Mice
The germ cell nuclear factor (GCNF) is a member of the nuclear receptor super family of transcription factors. GCNF expression during gastrulation and neurulation is critical for normal embryogenesis in mice. GCNF represses expression of the POU domain transcription factor Oct4 during mouse post-implantation development in vivo. Oct4 is thus down-regulated during female gonadal development, whe...
متن کاملExpression and function of clift in the development of somatic gonadal precursors within the Drosophila mesoderm.
The gonad forms from cells of two lineages: the germline and soma. The somatic gonadal cells generate the various cell types within the testis or ovary that support gametogenesis. These cells derive from embryonic mesoderm, but how they are specified is unknown. Here, we describe a novel regulator of Drosophila gonadogenesis, clift, mutations in which abolish gonad formation. clift is expressed...

Background: The study of specific genes expressed in the testis is important to understanding testis development and function. Spermatogenesis is an attractive model for the study of gene expression during germ cell differentiation. Spermatogenesis associated-19 (Spata-19) is a recently-identified important spermatogenesis-related gene specifically expressed in testis. Its protein product is in...
متن کاملRab11 is required for maintenance of cell shape via βPS integrin mediated cell adhesion in Drosophila
In eukaryotes, vesicle trafficking is regulated by the small monomeric GTPases of the Rab protein family. Rab11, (a subfamily of the Ypt/Rab gene family) an evolutionarily conserved, ubiquitously expressed subfamily of small monomeric Rab GTPases, has been implicated in regulating vesicular trafficking through the recycling of endosomal compartment. In an earlier communication, we have shown th...
متن کاملI-17: The Mechanism of Gonadal Sex Determination
Background In mammals, a single exon gene SRY on the Y-chromosome is activated in the XY gonadal primordium and initiates a cascade of molecular and morphological events leading to testicular differentiation. SRY-encoded protein (SRY) is a transcription factor harboring a HMG-box DNAbinding motif that upregulates SOX9, which encodes another transcription factor sharing the DNA binding motif wit...
